Here’s Why a Little Bit of Woo Woo at Work is a Good Thing

by | May 21, 2020 | Intuition, Work

We live in data overload! There are numbers, charts, estimates, and comparisons of budget to actuals in need of your constant attention.

And still, with all of this data, very intelligent executives sometimes make bad decisions.

In order to move forward, your team, investors, and funders all want “proof” that something is going to work out. And isn’t proof a great way to stay stuck?

What if you said to your team, your manager, your board that despite the group think, “My gut tells me this is the better candidate for the position?” Or “I have a sense that this is the better direction.” Even if they don’t agree, they will almost always ask you to say more. More doesn’t have to mean more numbers.

Pay attention to that nagging feeling. Some of the most critical information is your intuition. The top things to know about intuition are

(1) everybody has it and can access it at any time, and

(2) it is the only thing that exists strictly for your greatest good

I’m not proposing to leave the data behind. I am advocating, however, that you take that extra step at various points along the way to check in with your own intuition.

One of the best ways to do that is to get in touch with how your intuition shows up for you. If you have ever made a bad hire, had to spend time digging out from past decisions gone awry, you may want to give this intuition thing a try.
