Tie your shoelaces. Wear your seatbelt. Eat your vegetables.
Sage, solid advice preventable in their intention.
Every day I cringe when I see impending traumas in the making.
I have a bugaboo about not blocking exits in case of fire. My husband’s response is that it isn’t a problem. He’s correct. Not yet. My goal is to prevent one from occurring. It’s not because I’m a pessimist, I just think it is an easy way to avoid tragedy or trauma.
Those are the easy ones. Others, perhaps more subtle in nature, are still real. If something feels off, then it is. If someone gives you the creeps, don’t stick around to find out if it’s true. Move away from them.
Your intuition is not concerned with being polite. It is, however, concerned with being ignored because of what it may have to do to get your attention. Like allowing you to get hurt.
Like the simple act of tying your shoes, trust your gut instincts.
Where are you ignoring the simple acts of moving your shoes away from the doorway, not double-knotting your shoes, or sticking out uncomfortable situations in favor of politeness?
We cannot prevent everything, but we have a lot more control than we often believe.
Mary
