Weighing the Costs and Benefits of Getting Involved

by | Apr 21, 2026 | Executive Intuition Coaching

I have been preaching lately that whatever is happening in the US today, the problem isn’t political. It’s the result of an intentional divide that started many decades ago. Some could safely argue that the Civil War has never been settled. And, if the problem isn’t political, neither is the solution.

The solution lies within you and me.

I have enjoyed a mission-based career in the nonprofit sector. Causes are what motivate me. Getting involved in various causes has always felt right.

Recently, I heard someone who channels a specific entity say that now is not the time to take up a cause because it often means taking a side. Instead, it is time for each of us to simply show up everywhere we go with our light shining as brightly and compassionately as possible.

I’m not sure how I feel about that. Taking a stand seems like the most logical approach to me. Not a screaming-down-the-other-side stand, but a loving, compassionate, and service-laden stance for what you know is right. For me, right is what benefits the most people and honors where they are, what they need, and where I can be helpful.

Still, this channeled entity has caused me to rethink that assumption.

What would happen if I just showed up – if we all just showed up – every day with our soulful lights shining brightly? Would it confound those who came looking for a fight? Would I feel a sense of having contributed?

I am wrestling with this approach. I want to feel like I’m doing something. Yet showing up, simply shining my light, and holding space for others may be the hardest work of all. It is the ultimate in letting go of outcome.

Where do you stand on the issues closest to you? How do you show up? What do you think about simply showing up, reaching out to all regardless of their positions? Wordlessly. Openly. Would you feel like you contributed in a meaningful way?

Seriously contemplating. Hoping you will give it some thought, too, and share.
