We all have a superpower.
My father’s superpower was making everyone feel seen and heard. He leaned into people. Everyone. He asked about them and complimented them on something very real, no matter how small. He noticed you.
I used to think he did this with just me, making me feel special. As I got older, I realized he did that for everyone. A frequent description for Papa was “charmer”. The interesting thing is that he had no ulterior motives. He was not cult-leader charming. He did not intend to ask you for anything. He was genuinely interested in other people.
My husband’s superpower is his genuine care for the people and things he has adopted. His family, his home, his personal belongings. If he steps up, you will be cared for.
Superpowers don’t make us superhuman. They make us really good at one aspect of being human in a way that adds grace, beauty, and safety in the world.
There’s the autistic person whose gift is truth. The blind person whose superpower is perception. The elderly person whose superpower is understanding the younger generation’s need to find their own path without judgment.
I believe my superpower is being open to Spirit. My goal is to pay attention to the messages and be grateful for their guidance.
So, tell me, what is your superpower? How does it contribute to your world in a positive way? If you sat with a dozen people, what common denominator would they use to identify your superpower?
Once you know, embrace it. Hint: It is often the opposite of your greatest fear.
Forever curious,
Mary
